The history of Cohiba began in 1966when these cigars were initially used as gifts for high-ranking members of the government. The Cuban leader Fidel Castro discovered their special vitolas and was immediately impressed. Since then, Cohiba has been produced in the renowned El Laguito factory in Havana and has become a living legend in cigar history. In the 1960s, Fidel Castro’s bodyguard, Bienvenido “Chicho” Pérez, offered him a unique cigar – an unmistakable format with an extraordinary aroma. Castro fell in love with the taste and soon after met Eduardo Rivera, a talented torcedor and friend of his bodyguard. Rivera became Castro’s personal cigar roller and founded a small manufactory in 1964, which later became the legendary El Laguito factory. Selected female cigar rollers worked there, including Norma Fernández, who launched the Cohiba brand in 1966 – laying the foundations for one of the most exclusive brands of Habanos S.A. From 1982 Cohiba cigars were also available internationally for discerning connoisseurs. To mark the brand’s 55th anniversary, Habanos S.A. is presenting the Cohiba 55th Anniversary Limited Edition in 2021 – a coveted rarity for collectors and lovers of the finest tobacco art. Since 2002, Habanos S.A. has published an exceptional cigar format every year in the form of a book humidor under the series “Colección Habanos” series. This series is aimed at collectors of fine cigar treasures and comprises large, impressive formats. The Cohiba Ideales Colección Habanos 2021 Book Humidor is the highlight of this year. With an impressive ring gauge of 56 and a length of 175 mm, the format is described as “Modernas” in the El Laguito factory. The edition is strictly limited to 3,000 humidors with 20 cigars each.
