Cohiba Siglo VI – Gran Reserva Cosecha 2003

A living myth of Cuban cigar history: The Cohiba cigar embodies the origins of what is now the world’s most legendary tobacco manufacturer.

In the 1960s, Fidel Castro’s bodyguard, Bienvenido “Chicho” Pérez, offered him a fragrant cigar in a special format – and Castro immediately succumbed to its exceptional taste. Shortly afterwards he met Eduardo Rivera, a torcedor friend of his bodyguard, who became Castro’s personal cigar roller. Originally intended as an exclusive gift for Cuba’s state guests and high-ranking diplomats, Rivera founded a small factory in 1964 – the forerunner of the famous El Laguito in Havana. Eight hand-picked cigar rollers worked there, including Norma Fernández, who named the company Cohiba in 1966.

Specialist retailers and collectors worldwide eagerly awaited it. It became clear at its very first presentation on the gala evening of the XI. Festival del Habano: This cigar is a new star in the Habanos sky. The Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva 2003 is the first Gran Reserva to be launched on the market. For this purpose, the best tobaccos from the excellent 2003 harvest from the renowned growing regions of San Juan y Martínez and San Luis were allowed to mature in Pinar del Río.

Over a period of five years, all the tobaccos required for a Habano – wrapper, binder and the three filler tobaccos – were carefully selected, fermented and regularly checked. After this maturation period, the best torcedores of the Cohiba factory “El Laguito” in Havana rolled these cigars in the Cañonazo format (150 mm length, ring gauge 52).

That the choice for Habanos ‘ first Gran Reserva fell on the top brand Cohiba is only logical: Cohiba is considered one of the most prestigious and best-known premium cigar brands in the world . The Cohiba Siglo VI format is also among the most popular vitolas and was therefore chosen for the premiere of the Gran Reserva. This resulted in a truly unique Habano that surpasses everything that has come before.

The trade press worldwide showered this excellent product with top ratings, thus confirming the success of this extraordinary concept. Only 5,000 individually numbered boxes of 15 pieces each exist worldwide. In keeping with the high standards of this cigar, the boxes are designed in elegant black piano lacquer and luxuriously equipped.
