Bolívar was founded in 1902 and is named after Simón Bolívar, who led the independence movements of South America in the 19th century. Habanos S.A. counts the brand among the strongest and most flavourful in its portfolio, and links that character explicitly to the personality of the man it is named after. The cigars are made today at the Partagás factory in Havana.

Filler and wrapper come from the Vuelta Abajo in Pinar del Río province, and every size is made totally by hand with long filler. The profile is regarded as earthy and spicy, with pronounced strength and a long finish; Habanos describes the brand as a favourite of experienced smokers of full-bodied cigars. Among its best-known vitolas are the Royal Coronas, a robusto, and the Belicosos Finos. Through the Ediciones Limitadas the brand has added new formats over the years, among them the Soberano in 2018 and the Regentes in 2021 (52 ring gauge, 130 mm).

Smoke currently carries the Regentes from the 2021 Edición Limitada and Royal Coronas from the 2009 vintage, offered as aged single cigars.
