H. Upmann

H. Upmann goes back to Hermann Upmann, a German banker who settled in Havana and in 1844 began producing cigars under his own name. He ran a banking business at the same time, which was later given up; the cigar brand has endured. In the 19th century it won gold medals at eleven international exhibitions. In 1937 the firm Menéndez, García y Cía., which had founded Montecristo two years earlier, took over the H. Upmann factory, and the two brands have been closely linked ever since.

Habanos S.A. rates H. Upmann light to medium and describes the profile as refined and balanced. Every size is made totally by hand with long filler from the Vuelta Abajo. Among its best-known vitolas are the Magnum sizes – Magnum 46, Magnum 50, Magnum 54 and the Super Magnum – the No. 2, a pirámide, and the Sir Winston, a churchill. Several of these have also appeared as Reserva or Gran Reserva releases made with tobacco aged for several years.

Smoke carries the Magnum Finite from the 2024 Edición Limitada, the Super Magnum from the 2020 Colección Habanos, the Sir Winston Gran Reserva Cosecha 2011 and the No. 2 Reserva Cosecha 2010.
