Description
The Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas Gran Reserva Cosecha 2013 is the brand's first Gran Reserva. The format measures 194 mm with a ring gauge of 49. The tobaccos come from the 2013 harvest and matured for at least five years before being rolled. Habanos S.A. presented the cigar at the Habanos Festival and produced 5,000 lacquered Gran Reserva boxes of 15 cigars each.
Hoyo de Monterrey has its origins in San Juan y Martínez, in the heart of the Vuelta Abajo region. The Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, one of the renowned Vegas de Primera, is reached through a gate on the town's main square bearing the inscription "Hoyo de Monterrey. José Gener. 1860".
The word "hoyo" literally means "hole" and here refers to the low-lying position of the plantation along the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martínez river. In 1865 the Spaniard José Gener first used the name of his vega for a Habanos brand.
Its blend makes Hoyo de Monterrey the preferred choice for those seeking a delicate yet aromatic Habano: lighter in flavour, but marked by great elegance and complexity.
