Description
This Marquis de Montdidier Armagnac is from the 1926 vintage and belongs to the house's old vintages, which are regarded as rarities today. As a vintage Armagnac it comes from a single harvest. It originates in Gascony in south-western France, was distilled only once and aged in oak barrels, which give it its amber colour and bouquet.
Armagnac is often wrongly described as Cognac's little brother. Yet the history of Cognac goes back to the 17th century, whereas Armagnac was already mentioned in documents in 1461. Even then, the spirit was used as a medicine.
Drawing on the expertise of the Romans, the Gauls and the Moors, Armagnac has been distilled and refined over centuries. Today France's oldest spirit enjoys a high reputation. The grapes for Armagnac grow in Gascony. After a single distillation, the brandy first matures in new barrels made from oak that has been seasoned for six years. The longer Armagnac matures in the barrel, the higher its quality grade.
